"I just started out, why the fuck would anyone choose ME?" "I practically have to BEG people to get on a sales call with me!" "I just need better hashtags!"
As a coach trying to make a name (and a living) for yourself on Instagram, have you ever found yourself repeating these stories?
If you have, you're not alone. In fact, "how do I stand out from the million other people on Instagram" is one of the most common questions I get in my line of work!
So you find yourself making any of these excuses (yes. excuses) as to why you don't have more clients, this is for you.
How To Blend In
The truth is, standing out online isn't hard. At least, it doesn't have to be.
But if you want to stand out, you need to avoid doing the following:
1. Trying to follow a trend
If you're trying to stand out online, following trends is the last thing you want to do. The key to not looking like everyone else on Instagram is...not looking like everyone else on Instagram!
So what should you do instead?
The key here is to really trust your gut and show up as your true self. Your true self.
Talk about what you actually want to talk about, use colors you actually love, share your story often, post photos you love, and create an Instagram based on what you love first, and what your ideal clients need second.
Those are the only people who get a say in how you show up: you, and the clients you want to attract.
2. Mimicking your favorite coach because you think she's so unique and awesome
Your favorite coach stands out in a sea of millions, so you should do what she's doing, right? Well, not exactly. The only reason she stands out is because she is doing something that is unique and true and different to her.
If you start to copy your favorite coach, you won't be seen as unique — you'll be seen as a copy of your favorite coach.
Once again, the patter is to really show up as your truest, boldest, most honest and authentic self. That is what your coach is doing to help her stand out, and that is how you can stand out too.
3. Posting constantly because you think that's the only way to stand out
Posting constantly to your stories and feed to stand out seems smart in theory — the more content you have, the more people will inevitably see it.
But that isn't what gets you clients.
If that doesn't work, what does?
The quality of your content is far more important than the quantity.
Showing up consistently is important, but every piece of content should count. Every piece of content should be something of value to your audience. Every piece of content should intrigue, inspire, educate, polarize, sell, or tell a story.
Stand out content is also honest. It shares your unique perspective, ideas, thoughts, and voice in the way that only you can.
That is the kind of content that truly helps you stand out from the crowd.
If you want to stand out online so you can sign your next client with ease, you need to step into your truest, boldest self and create a memorable, unique, authentic brand that positions you as the go-to expert in your field
